Introduction to Pattern Cutting
Learn flat pattern cutting to create 3D shapes and sewing basics. You will learn how to use the essential tools for pattern cutting with digital block patterns to adapt styles for bodices, sleeves, collars and skirts patterns. Draft patterns in half scale and full-size 6-20 with regard to fit, proportion and balance.

Slashing and Pivoting Techniques
This lesson is about pattern making with two fundamental industry techniques: slash and pivot to manipulate the block patterns into various styles. Interpret designs into workable patterns that can be used to construct a garment. We’ll cover everything from the techniques, tools, pattern cutting terms and everything that entails.

Sewing Machine Basics
This lesson is about sewing machine basics, types of sewing machines, sewing terms and seam types. Read through your sewing machine manual for specific instructions to get you up and running with the controls before starting any sewing projects. As you become more comfortable and skilled with your machine, you'll be able to tackle a wide range of sewing projects with precision and confidence.

Bodice Dart Positions
In this lesson, you’ll dive into understanding the need for bust suppression by modifying and styling the bodice pattern with dart manipulation this must take place through the bust point. We’ll cover slashing and pivoting techniques to convert, move, divide, combine darts and adjust the fullness in the bodice.

Constructing Collars
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to create collar styles. Understand the principles of collar drafting for the various collar types in the basic categories, collar terminology, prepare the bodice draft, interfacing, attaching, finishing collars and points to remember when designing collars.

Sleeve Styling
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to adapt the basic sleeve block to develop into various sleeve styles. Sleeves are of two basic types, those which are cut separately and set into an armhole and those in which all or part of the sleeve is cut in one with the body of the garment.

Skirt Styling
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to adapt the skirt block to develop an understanding of the basic principles of skirt styling with the straight shape that form the basis of all skirt silhouettes. Develop the expertise needed to create a stylish and well-fitted skirts.

Openings, Buttonholes and Facings
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to create various working openings cut into garment sections, factors to consider when planning a button opening, key positions for marking buttonholes, button sizes, facings to finish off the edge of a pattern and types of interfacing to use.

Darts into Seams on the Bodice
In this lesson, you’ll learn how darts are used to shape the flat fabric to the contours of the figure, position bodice darts into a temporary area to convert darts into seams through the bust point. Darts into seams can be strategically placed on the bodice to enhance fit and design, making them virtually invisible while maintaining structural integrity.
